Oxalic acid, also known as ethanedioic acid, has the chemical formula C2H2O4.It has two common crystal forms: α - type (rhombic) and β - type (monoclinic). It starts to sublime at 100℃, and the sublimation becomes rapid at 125℃. It can react with alkalis, and is capable of undergoing esterification, acyl halide formation, amidation,and reduction reactions.
 
Oxalic acid has a relatively low PH value, indicating its acidic nature. It is a weak dibasic acid, which means it can donate two protons in an aqueous solution.Additionally, it has a crystalline structure that contributes to its solid state at room temperature. Its chemical properties make it reactive in certain chemical reactions.Moreover, it can form water - soluble complexes with many metals.
