Rosin is mainly extracted from the secretions of pine trees. It is an extremely abundant natural resin in nature and also a renewable resource. Rosin is mainly composed of resin acid, accounting for about 85 to 90%, with the rest being fatty acids and neutral substances. It appears as irregular semi-transparent granules or lumps. The surface is light yellow to reddish-brown, often with a layer of yellowish-white frost powder. At room temperature, it is hard and brittle, easily broken, with a bright cross-section and a glassy luster, and has a turpentine aroma. It softens when heated, then melts, and produces yellowish-brown thick smoke when burning. It forms a yellowish-brown emulsion when ground with water. The best ones are those with large particles, light color, semi-transparency, high oiliness and strong smell.
